I'm not that skilled, but the skills I do have came from A LOT of practice and studying The best thing you can do is keep at it. You'll constantly improve.
I know, but I need a reference or inspiration while drawing. It helps me. kinda like what i did with my pictures of Sly's ansectors, I looked at a picture of Tennesse kid cooper where sly is talking about him and his pic popped up, and tried to draw it by just looking at it. It turned out fine.
Using reference to learn is just fine. I'd suggest studying people too so you can get a good grasp of anatomy. That way you can imagine a pose in your head and know how to translate it visually.
I used to that mindset, but I can assure you that by studying real anatomy and getting the hang of it everything you draw improves. Because it gives you a better understanding of how the body works.
